Way Cool Kid started as me, my sewing machine, a whole lot of great fabric, and what I would like to believe are some fantastic ideas for wonderful children’s clothing. I believe that children’s clothing should be unique, whimsical, and comfortable. Every piece of clothing from Way Cool Kid is a one-of-a-kind creation, designed to appeal to your child’s imagination; I aim to make the clothing your little one will ask to wear again and again. And I upcycle fabric whenever possible, giving great vintage fabrics a new life.
Say hello to Big Bunny. Not only is Big Bunny big, he is absolutely adorable in this wonderful Heather Bailey fabric. The dress is made of plaid suiting with its facing matching the applique. Made with convenient button straps this dress is easy to get on and off.
This is Oli the Elephant. I’ve been making Oli stuffed animals, drawings, and games for years. At last Oli has made it to a dress. The dress is made of an easy to care for wool blend, and Oli is appliqued in a combination of fantastic fabrics from American Jane.
One of my wee one’s first toys was a squeaky giraffe, and the whole house has been thoroughly enamored with giraffes ever since. And what could be better than a big giraffe on a little dress. This dress is made of an easy to care for wool blend, and the Big Giraffe is appliqued in a wonderful dot fabric from Amy Butler.
When I explained to my wee one that giraffes eat leaves off of trees, she thought that was one of the coolest things ever. So we started to imagine what it would be like if a giraffe were to come eat leaves from the trees around here. Since we have lots of apple trees in upstate New York we met our new friend the apple-eating giraffe. And thus was born the Giraffe and the Apple Tree Dress.
Every kid is a big star, or at least should be, at least in his or her house. My little one is an art-star, a sliding-star, and a macaroni-eating-star, among other things. And what better way to say your little one is a big star than with the Big Star Dress. Made of a beautiful blue corduroy, appliqued with a variety of dotted cotton prints (dots may vary), and detailed with a tight zig-zag stitch border around the star, the Big Star Dress is just plain fun.
The Big Mousie dress was inspired by a blog post by the fantastic textile designer Heather Bailey. In fact Big Mousie was the first of the big animal designs, the basis of my realization that big animals on little dress are really, really fun.
