F, G, & H, among other things…

Okay kids, I’ve kinda written myself out this afternoon; finally snuck in some time to draft my next (fourth) essay for Quilter’s Newsletter. So this is going to be a quick post, or at least I am going to try to make it short, but you know me and I have this tendency to sneeze out a thousand words on almost anything…

So, first things first…

(By the way, we have found that a really useful phrase with Bee as of late. She, like me, has a tendency to want to do steps one, two, three, four, and five all at the same time…)

Here is the block for the letter F, which is for flummery, which also happens to be inordinately fun to say…

And the blog for G, which is for gallimaufry, which seems an extremely apt word for talking about quilts. So pack that into your sachet of words and remember to thank me whenever you use it…

(As an aside, Gallimaufry was also the name of my high school’s art and literary journal. I wrote an odd little story about being driven psychotic by the color beige for it; I think I was heavily under the influence of the Talking Heads at the time)…

And H, which is for horripilation, which is when the hairs on your skin (especially the back of your neck) stand up. You have no idea how happy it makes me that there is a word for that…

So, there you go, the next three blocks for the Abecedarian quilt. I’m glad to know that there are a few of you playing along out there. And remember, at the end, if you show me your Braille quilt top you’ll be entered for a chance to win a blue FQ bundle of Kona solids. Yay!!!

Oh, and you may have noticed that none of my blocks are sewn together. Well, I am still working without a sewing machine here, so I am making due and just laying blocks out. I’m hoping it will arrive soon and I’ll be able to bang my top together, but we shall see. Such are the realities of moving across an ocean. So I do hope you all will forgive me, and that I can continue to maintain my sanity without the ability to sew. Soon though, and oh what plans I have…

In the meantime I’ve decided to kick a few things old-school around here, but more on that tomorrow…

Happy sewing (you bastards who have machines right now)…
