Mystery Quilt (number three)…

So, it is that time again. I need help with another mystery bee quilt. I hope this one will end up in a publication, but I am doing it entirely on spec. At the very least it will be part of an essay that I am dying to write, and am insanely excited about, though I have great hopes it may end up a part of the next book I am hoping to write…

As my practice changes over the coming months and years I am finding myself more and more drawn to the writing side of things. As such I am looking to pair my quilts with essays more and more often, using the combination to think big about the nature of quilting in our time, what it means to be a part of this practice in the beginning of the 21st century as distinct from the 19th or early 20th century. While so much of our quilting vocabulary comes from that bygone past, our world is a radically different place than the one our grand-, great-grand, and great-great-grandparents lived in.

This is what I want to continue to explore. This is what drives me to make quilts. This is what I hope one day will lead me back to doing this full-time, but that is another discussion, and those are different hopes…

Today my hope is that I can find 80 people to make a single block. The block itself is easy, though it is open to a lot of variation. In fact that is one of the main reasons why I want to do this as a collaborative quilt; I hope each of you will put your own spin on the block (within the basic constraints of the block itself, of course).

So, what I need is for interested quilters to leave a comment on this post (making sure to give me your email in some way) and I will then send off the details. Unlike some of my earlier mystery quilts I’ll be able to tell you what this one is about. Yay for that at least…

So, fingers crossed for volunteers…

As always, thank you all so much for your support and your kindness and your, well, all of that and stuff…
