Method to my madness…

So, I think I feel like I might be starting to get the hang of this quilting thing…

(Could I qualify that statement any more???)

I feel like ideas and designs are starting to click in my head and that I am getting closer to making the quilts I want to be making. This has a lot less to do with external validation than the little voice in the back of my head that is always talking to me. But, a little external validation never hurts…

My second magazine quilt just came out, this time in the new issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts. I think this is the one that really helped to put some things into place in my head, not just in terms of technical stuff. I think I started to get a better feel of how to translate the concepts, issues, or references in my head into quilts, to move into a more conceptual stage with my making…

This one is called Method (you can find it here on the Quick Quilts site). It is based on recollections of the Methodist church I grew up going to. think all of the Methodist churches built in that era had a unique architectural style, kinda like the Brady Bunch meets church, with 70s modernism colliding with flying buttresses, and stained glass windows designed by the same people who made string art…

While I am not a religious man — heck I am a devout atheist if anything — I’m pretty sure that church had an enormous impact on my aesthetic life. It just seems to go with Flock, which may explain why I am so drawn to using triangles in my Flock quilts. This is the actual church I went to when little; see the resemblance???

Anyway, so excited about this one. Even more excited to get it back so we can start sleeping under it…

Yay quilts!!!
