It’s Alive!!! (Modern Quilt Perspectives edition)…

So the day is finally here, my book’s official publication date. From this day on it is genuinely and irrevocably real. It also happens to be Pi Day, which seems appropriately geeky; perhaps the next one shall have to come out on Mole Day

Today is also the start of the blog tour; I gave the first day to myself so I could say a few words and get things under way. While everyone on the blog tour is going to share their thoughts on the book, and suggests reasons why it is worth reading, in my mind today is all about a single page in the book: page five…

Without these people this book would never have happened. Whether it was material supplies, contributions of labor, emotional support, intellectual reinforcements, or simply existing, an incredible number of people helped to make this book happen. On the one hand I am proud of the work (aesthetic and intellectual) that I did for this book, but I am even more proud to have been given so much support. The aid all of these people have given me, directly or obliquely, means that I have been doing something right. I cannot express just how grateful I am, and for that reason, this day is all about page five…

Starting tomorrow the blog tour will begin, and people around the world will be posting about the book and giving away copies. And every day I will be here sharing some behind the scenes stories, about the people on the tour and what they have meant to me, or about some of the insanity that happened on the way to bringing this book together. I cannot wait to read what everyone on the tour thinks (I haven’t a clue yet)…

And you can be part of the tour too, at least unofficially. When you get your copy go ahead and write your own review on your blog (if you have one) and let me know. I will use my daily posts during the tour to link to new reviews and thoughts. And of course, don’t forget to leave your review on Amazon; the PR person keeps telling me that it is important for all kinds of algorithmic reasons (and because I am trying to convince her to give me a bottle of good whisky in exchange for playing nice and asking for reviews)…

So, thank you to everyone who has helped in making this book happen, and thank you to everyone who is taking the time over the next month to be a part of the blog tour. And of course, thanks to everyone who buys a copy (or two or three). For those of you who want a signed copy you can bring your copy if I come and speak at your guild, or I will have bookplates available starting next week…

And one more thing before I leave you with the schedule for the blog tour (my quilt-wife Lisa Sipes is starting it off tomorrow)…
