Help…

So, a while back I put out a call for help on a mystery project and so many of you jumped up and lent a hand. That quilt is now all together and into my publisher’s hands for my first book, and I can’t thank you all enough… Yay!!!

Now, it is time for me to ask for a bit of help again on another mystery project. It may or may not be for the book; I’m not telling, but it is another piece that would be so much richer if it were done as a community project. I can’t tell you what it is all about, but suffice it to say that it will be super-awesome. I promise. Hence I am putting out another call for help…

I need 300 of these blocks:

They aren’t hard to do, but I do need a bunch of them (300 of these units of five) and I do not have a lot of time (I need them all no later than January 15th). So if you would be willing to pitch in and lend a hand here are the instructions:

Materials:
4 @ 2.5” square in orange or red small-print tonals (no solids)
1 @ 2.5” square in blue or green small-print tonal (no solids)
10 @ 1.5” square in Kona Snow

Step One:

To make each of the sub-units lay two of your 1.5″ squares in Kona Snow over opposite corners of one of your 2.5″ squares. Sew diagonally across each Kona Snow square as shown. Trim 1/4″ outside the seam and press the seam allowance toward the print. Repeat for each of your remaining 2.5″ squares.

Your final sub-unit will look like this:

Step Two:

Sew together your five sub-units horizontally, making sure four of them are in the orange or red range and one of them is in the blue or green range. Please don’t re-use prints; this is all about getting lots of different prints in there.

The final block will measure 10.5″ x 2.5″. You do not have to orient the sub-units the way I did, just make sure they are not all pointing in the same direction (ie from bottom-left to top-right). It also does not matter where the blue or green sub-unit goes as long as each block has four red or orange sub-units and one blue or green sub-unit.

Again, please only use Kona Snow for the off-white squares. Also, feel free to make more than one block; I do need 300 of these. I’ll be making a bunch, but would love to have as many people involved as possible. As I did with the previous group quilt I will be printing a label at Spoonflower listing everyone who took part…

Oh, and how to get them to me if you decide to help. When you have your block or blocks ready drop me an email at thomas@thomasknauersews.com and I’ll give you my address, and of course my profound appreciation…

Yay people!!!
