Wanna know just how big of a geek I am? Of course you do…

This is what I’m doing in my hotel room, a night off on my own here in Cincy (I’m here to shoot the step-outs for the book)…

And the top I am piecing is the latest of my bee projects (there are two in the book). Not spilling the beans about this one publicly, but I can give a peek…

Here’s the thing about this quilt; I am doing it to illustrate an idea for an essay. Actually, these days a lot of the quilts I do are props for essays. That’s how big a geek I am. Sane quilters (a dubious proposition, I know) make quilts for people, or because they love sewing, or fabric, or whatnot. I make quilts as an excuse to write essays. Could I be a bigger geek???

Not sure just when the essay is going to go public; still need to deal with quilting this baby, and of course write the other zillion essays in line before this one. But what I can do at the moment is send out a great big thank you to everyone who helped out with this quilt by sending along blocks. You are all awesome!!!

A few didn’t make it into the top because the math did not work out to form a reasonable rectangle, but the remaining blocks will all get worked into the back. Again, thanks so incredibly much!!!

Damn, as soon as I saw this I realized that I let this get away from me! I so wanted to be part of this quilt. Just know I blew it not that I was offended and didn’t want to play with the cool geeky kids!

I am glad I chose to join this project. There is so much going on, and you managed to pull it together beautifully. I love the tremendous variety in the blocks.

OMG Thomas this looks amazing, cannot wait to see it all quilted up. Squinting into the distant picture to see if my block is there. So excited to see this one coming together and for the essay.

Looks awesome! I made my block for this quilt then realised I had done it wrong, so I didn’t send it. But now looking at these I didn’t! Oh well, never mind – it looks so cool – well done 🙂

Thomas it looks fantastic. I’m sorry that I too did not get mine finished in time, but you obviously have enough!
Well done geeky boy and all the block makers.
