Audrie Bidwell (the Modern Quilt Perspectives blog tour)…

(Check out Audrie’s stop on the blog tour here. If you don’t know her, you should; she is absolutely wicked awesome, and if you don’t fall in love with her you are crazy. Oh, and you can win a spare copy of the book over there — spare because of course you’ve already bought your copy, right???)

I really can’t remember when I first met Audrie. Well, wait, I remember when I first met, met her, like in person and stuff. That was at Sewing Summit 2012, but that was mostly a big blur of altitude-induced HKPP attacks, so I don’t actually remember that all that well. What I mean is that I don’t really remember when I first encountered Audrie here on the inderwebs, but that is a good thing. It means I pretty much feel like I have known her as long as I have been around here in the sewing world; I cannot imagine a time when I didn’t know Audrie, which is just kinda awesome.

And now I admit the giant error in the book: we somehow omitted the bit where we credit Audrie for having pieced not just Split Personality…

But also “Cinderblocks.”

And by we, I mean that I somehow missed it in the final edits. I knew I would miss something, but this really kinda sucks. It has been corrected for future printings, but that don’t help this edition of the book. So, picture me up on a rooftop with a big ol’ megaphone shouting this:

Audrie Bidwell pieced the bejeezus out of “Cinderblocks” and is insanely awesome and then stuff…

Well, okay, maybe don’t picture that per se. Or if you do at least picture it so that I don’t look like a bigger dork than I normally am…

But seriously, I love the heck out of Audrie, and think she is an absolutely amazing quilter. She took part of the Jellybean-a-thon way back when (feels like another lifetime actually) and made one of my favorite quilts ever…

This quilt actually contains my favorite detail in a quilt ever…

She came up one square shy of the needed print, so she fudged it. Actually, came up with one of the best fudges ever. And honestly, that exemplifies what I think about Audrie. It is such an intelligent move, one that really demonstrates an astute understanding of fabric, quilts, and making. It just screams out that she gets it, way deep down.

Know what else? I keep nagging Audrie to do a book (or at least as often as I pop up onto Twitter again now that we have two children). I want to read that book and to see those quilts, ‘cause Ms. Bidwell, you are a badass…

So, thank you so much for your time, labor, and love in helping to make this book happen; I could never have tackled the mountain of piecing alone. I hope to be able to thank you enough some day, but that seems unlikely…

So, though the words cannot be enough, thank you Audrie…
